She is the second most beloved wife of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihe Wasallam after his first wife Khadijah (R.A.). As her name implies, she was the daughter of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq the closest friend of the Prophet and his first successor or caliph. She is given the title “Siddiqah-Truthful” because of an incident after which Allah the Almighty testified to her honesty, trustworthiness, and purity.
Aishah (R.A.) was the most knowledgeable Muslim woman of her time. She used to teach many things related to women to the senior companions of the Prophet. The great scholar and commentator Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani names 88 profound scholars of the early Muslim community who learned from her and goes on to mention that there were a large number of others. She was also privileged to have been one of the few people who had transmitted quite a substantial number of the Prophet’s traditions. She is from amongst the four individuals known to have transmitted more than two thousand Prophetic traditions, the others being Abu Hurayrah, Abdullah Ibn Umar, and Anas Ibn Malik (R.A.).
Many of the learned companions of the Prophet and their followers benefited from Aishah (R.A.)’s knowledge. Abu Musa Al-Ashari (R.A.) once said: “If we companions of the Messenger of Allah had any difficulty on a matter, we asked Aishah about it.”
Aishah (R.A.) did not study in any school, college, or university, yet scholars and professors and students of literature, law, and Islamic history study her eloquent words till today. She not only possessed great knowledge but also was active in education and social reform. She was a pioneer in promoting education and in particular the education of women.
Aishah Siddiqah (R.A.) continues to be a role model and a source of inspiration for Muslims and non-Muslims around the world till this very day. We at Jamiah Aishah Siddiqah hope and pray to Allah that the likes of Aishah Siddiqah (R.A.) graduate from our institute.
